Mackney Photography are a boutique photographic studio, winning national awards for their work in both portraiture and the studio.
We are lucky to be based in the beautiful English heritage site of Darley Abbey (only 5mins from the main City Centre of Derby) in our purpose built photography studio.
Inspired by our experiences in London and New York – the 2200sq foot studio offers the perfect combination of high ceilings for better lighting, picturesque outdoor park locations just seconds away and an abundance of ideas to really capture you and your family.
Mackney photography decided to relocate into the old industrial building that used to house Ellison metals with an amazing history of industrial work – it was the perfect project to convert into a professional studio.
Keeping in tune with the industrial use of the building – the whole studio has ben renovated and creatively built to give portrait clients an experience not to be forgotten.
Planning for the interior of the building began in 2011 with carefully prepared drawings based on how to create a perfect photographic studio environment. Having lived in New York and London, we explored the architecture and interiors of both cities to give Derby a studio not to be forgotten.
In the bitter cold and snow of February 2012 – we moved into the empty shell and painstakingly sandblasted walls and used re-claimed floorboards to decorate walls. The ideas being that each area and wall would turn into creative backdrops.
Pods were put in to house the viewing areas, changing rooms and make-up artist area – with our strive for perfection, we aimed to create multiple backdrops that would cater to even the harshest of critics.
