At Mackney Photography, we understand how important your pet is to you. We know that life would feel incomplete without your furry companion by your side.

That's why we’re proud to be a pet-friendly portrait photography studio. We welcome you to bring along your well-behaved pet to your family portrait session with us if you’d like to.

Pet-friendly photography studio Derby

As pet parents ourselves, we warmly welcome dogs to our studio, here in Darley Abbey Mills.

We have our very own, and much adored, Miniature Schnauzer, Trigger, who practically lives at the studio with us, so we can assure you that our studio is a safe and pet-friendly space.

As you might imagine, not all photographers offer a pet-friendly photo studio, but we are proud to be an exception. We love pets and know that you do too.

When you bring your dog along to our studio, they’re certain to receive a lot of fuss and attention courtesy of our pet-loving staff! We all have a genuine passion for pets, and for capturing the unique connections between humans and their dogs.

For many years, our team of highly skilled photographers have photographed pet-loving families with their furry friends, and we also offer standalone pet photography services

Drawing on our vast experience of working with pets, we’ll ensure that your session is enjoyable, stress-free, and filled with laughter.

Family and pet photography in the photography studio

You can bring along your four-legged friend for a portrait session in our studio with your whole family, or they can be part of your new baby’s newborn photoshoot or your child’s portrait session.

When involving your pet, you can expect that they will be treated as one of the family by all of us here. They will receive a warm welcome!

We’ll give them plenty of time to get settled into the studio environment before we get started, and we’ll be sure to work quickly to ensure that they are not expected to stay still for too long. Much like young children, we completely understand that pets will want to move around and explore!

Outdoor family and dog photography

In addition to being a pet-friendly photography studio, we’re also happy to meet you for your family and pet photoshoot at an outdoor location in the Darley Abbey area, if you would prefer.

Whether you opt for an indoor studio session or an outdoor family lifestyle session is a personal choice. It will ultimately depend on what style of photographs you hope to gain from working with us.

You know your pet better than anyone. If you’re unsure of which session type to choose, which style of session do you think they would prefer?

  • Would they behave well in the studio?
  • Or would they feel most comfortable outdoors?

We offer both options since no two dogs are the same.

Ultimately, the decision is yours. In this blog, we’re showing you examples from both indoor and outdoor sessions so that you can get a feel for the types of portraits that we can create.

Examples from recent family and pet photoshoots

As you can see from the examples of family pet portraits we’re sharing here, we love to capture the love, laughter and cherished moments you share with your pet.

The unique bond between you is something that we work hard to capture, along with the personalities of every single member of the family.

Frequently Asked Questions about Family Pet Portraits and Dog Photography

Q: What type of portraits will you take during a family and pet portrait session?

A: We will capture portraits in our trademark style which you can see in this blog and throughout our website. Those will include photographs of your child or the whole family, both with and without the dog. We’ll set up a variety of shots so that you have a good selection to choose from when it’s time for your portrait viewing appointment.

During a studio shoot, we’ll photograph you against a stylish backdrop and pose you in a variety of ways. We will ask you to hold your dog or get them to sit alongside you, or on your lap.  During a typical outdoor shoot, our photographer will walk with you as you explore the local countryside, parks and pathways, capturing candid and natural photographs of you and your pet together.

Q: Should you choose an indoor or outdoor family and pet photography session?

A: Some pet parents love our studio portrait style, while others prefer the on-location style portraits. It’s a personal decision.

Q: Does my dog need to be kept on a leash during the photoshoot?

A: We can digitally remove your pet’s leash from the family pet portraits in the photo editing stage. So, if you’re in any doubt about whether your dog will behave either in our studio or at the park or wherever we meet you, then you can keep the leash on for the full session. It’s incredible what our photo technicians can do!

Q: When is it a good time to invest in family pet portraits?

A: Now is a great time to have family and pet portraits taken! At Mackney Photography, we want to help you preserve your precious family memories.

Our family pet portraits are all about capturing the love and bond you share with your pet. They become timeless keepsakes that you and your family will treasure for a lifetime, and they’ll become ever more special as the years pass.

Q: What photo products are available to purchase after the session?

After your photoshoot, we will offer you a range of stunning photo products and wall art options so that you can display your portraits beautifully in your home. For more information about our products, please visit the Products page.
